Lucas Chevalier has gone into another dimension. This summer, the French goalkeeper left Lille OSC to join Paris Saint-Germain for the next 5 seasons.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper was transferred for the sum of 50 million euros to the capital club. The French international will have the difficult task of making Gigio Donnarumma forget one of the great architects of the victory in the Champions League on May 31.

However, the former Lille player can count on strong support like his friend but also competitor in the French team Mike Maignan. The current number 1 goalkeeper of the Tricolores presented himself at a press conference this Sunday before the match against Iceland this Monday (8:45 p.m.).

The AC Milan goalkeeper has confidence in Lucas Chevalier and believes he will do great things in Paris. “I am convinced that he will win at PSG. Lucas is a young goalkeeper who has a lot of potential, a hard worker, very humble. We exchange a lot, we are always in contact outside of the selection. It's part of learning. He will learn, he is a young goalkeeper with a future ahead of him. He will impose himself, he has the demands with him. We have a big brother-little brother relationship. The most important thing is the collective,” he declared to journalists.

Competition in Blue with the World Cup?

Since the international retirement of Hugo Lloris after the 2022 World Cup, Mike Maignan is the undisputed number 1 in the cage of the France team. The 30-year-old goalkeeper is also one of the leaders of the France group and should, barring any surprises, wear the captain's armband this Monday evening against Iceland.

But despite his status as number 1, the situation could perhaps change after the 2026 World Cup with the departure of Didier Deschamps and the emergence of Lucas Chevalier at PSG. The new coach could reshuffle the cards or rely again on his last rampart. What is certain is that Chevalier will one day establish himself as number 1 in Blue. To be continued…
