The Blues took the lead in Reykjavik thanks to Jean-Philippe Mateta, scorer of his very first goal for the French team. For his first start, the Crystal Palace striker seized his chance perfectly. Launched on the left, Akliouche placed a precise cross in front of the goal, and Mateta, arriving at the far post, dove to push the ball into the back of the net.
A goal full of opportunism and desire which allowed Deschamps' men to reverse the situation. Mateta, visibly moved, celebrated with the whole bench, aware of having signed a highlight of his young adventure in Blue.
