Madagascar, the sad end

A miracle was needed for Madagascar to secure direct qualification for the World Cup. The Barea had to win in Mali, hoping for a defeat for Ghana against the Comoros, while overcoming a very unfavorable goal difference.

None of that happened. Ghana won 1-0, on a goal from Mohammed Kudus (47th), and became the 21st qualifier for the World Cup in the United States. Meanwhile, Madagascar lost in Bamako (4-1), including a double from Auxerre's Lassine Sinayoko.

This result is terrible, because Madagascar can no longer hope to finish among the best runners-up to secure a place in the play-offs. The great adventure ends there for Corentin Martins' men.

Burkina Faso can still believe it

At the same time, in the Egypt group (already qualified and victorious 1-0 over Guinea-Bissau), Burkina Faso dominated Ethiopia thanks to a double from Pierre Kaboré (65th, 82nd).

For the Stallions, the prospect of being part of the four best runners-up, and therefore of competing in the play-offs, remains completely relevant.
