Since his arrival at Real Madrid, the relationship between Kylian Mbappé and Vinicius Jr has been dissected, analyzed and fantasized. The two stars, who occupy the same left lane, would be incompatible on the field, and cold off it. Every pass not given, every look is interpreted as a sign of a budding rivalry. Tired of these speculations, Mbappé took advantage of an interview with Movistar Plus to deliver his truth.

“It sells paper”: Mbappé’s rant

And his target is not his teammate. It's the press.
“Two famous players on the same team, it sells a lot of paper, it sells a lot of things”he said, bluntly accusing the media of inventing a rivalry from scratch for commercial reasons. For him, the reality is quite different: “I have a very good relationship with Vinicius. Much better this year, because we know each other much better. »

He brushes aside the rumors, calling them
“not serious”. A way of saying that the Madrid locker room is much more serene than what people want us to believe. “ We know that people talk about us for everything, but we have the same goal: to help Real Madrid win titles. »

A tactical problem, not a human one

This clarification has the merit of being clear. But it should not mask a real problem, which is very real: the complementarity of the two players on the field. Since these two stars have been under the same tunic, the Merengue have not won any major title. The duo has not yet been able to pull Real up. It's a tactical puzzle that Xabi Alonso has been trying to solve since his arrival at the club.

The fact remains that Mbappé's charge against the Spanish press is violent. He denounces a system which, according to him, prefers to create controversies rather than analyze the game. An outing which will undoubtedly not improve his relations with the media on the other side of the Pyrenees. But which has the merit of reminding us that, sometimes, the truth is much simpler than the stories that people want to tell us.
