This 9e day of the Africa zone qualifiers could have resolved the situation for Senegal. Leaders of group B with two steps ahead of the Democratic Republic of Congo before this international break, the Lions of Teranga could actually have validated their ticket for the 2026 World Cup this Friday. But that won't be the case.

Pape Thiaw's men nevertheless did what was necessary against South Sudan, winning largely (5-0) thanks to goals from Ismaïla Sarr (29e54e), Sadio Mané (46e), Nicolas Jackson on penalty (60e) and Chérif Ndiaye (76e). But their gap in the standings remained the same because the Leopards at the same time won on the Togo pitch (1-0).

Senegal still has to wait

Result: everything will be decided on the occasion of the 10e and last day, next Tuesday. The Senegalese will have the advantage of having their destiny in hand, but they must not fail at home against Mauritania. Because the DR Congo will be opposed to Sudan and will necessarily be keen to win first place on the wire and achieve an incredible feat.
