Faced with a solid and regrouped Azerbaijan team, the France team struggled to create clear chances during the first period. But Kylian Mbappé was able to unblock the situation. With a lightning acceleration, he eliminated several opponents, combined with Hugo Ekitike and finished with a low right-footed shot, unstoppable for the opposing goalkeeper, just before the break. His opener launched the Blues to a 3-0 victory, notably thanks to a goal from Adrien Rabiot.

Despite his performance, Mbappé was forced to give up his place in the 80th minute after taking several blows to his right ankle. Florian Thauvin, back in the selection, came on and scored a goal just seconds after arriving on the pitch. With this success, the Blues total three victories in three matches against Ukraine (2-0), Iceland (2-1) and Azerbaijan, strengthening their position on the way to qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.

Mbappé threatens Giroud

On an individual level, Mbappé scored his 53rd goal for the French team and is getting closer to Olivier Giroud's record (57). His start to the season with Real Madrid also confirms his exceptional state of form.

Club and national team combined, he has scored in his last ten matches and already has 17 goals in 13 games this season. This series allows him to match his best performance with the Blues, already recorded between October 2021 and March 2022.
