It has now been more than a year since Antoine Griezmann surprised everyone by announcing his international retirement. Through a message posted at the end of September 2024 on his social networks, the Atlético de Madrid player confirmed that he was turning the page on the French team, just a few weeks after Olivier Giroud. The latter raised the subject this Thursday.

The one who chose to return to Ligue 1 this summer by signing for Lille, was the guest of RMC. And he spoke in particular about his former teammate with 137 caps with the Blues. While he himself was honored by the French Football Federation which organized a special evening for him on the sidelines of the France-Croatia match played last March, Olivier Giroud confirmed that Antoine Griezmann would certainly be entitled to the same treatment.

“He should receive a tribute. I don't know when, but we discussed it together to see if we could do it together or not. » Antoine Griezmann finally indicated to the FFF that he was not available for personal reasons in March 2025. As a result, the former FC Barcelona player is still in the waiting room to be entitled to a well-deserved tribute.

Antoine Griezmann will still have to wait

“The fact is that I had one,” added Olivier Giroud, “and he will have one. He will have his jersey in the Hall of Fame. » Initially reserved for players with more than a hundred selections, this famous Hall of Fame had sparked a little controversy linked to its entry conditions. For now, Olivier Giroud, Zinédine Zidane, Lilian Thuram, Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry, Marcel Desailly, Hugo Lloris and Didier Deschamps are among them.

Antoine Griezmann should therefore enter there one day. As for its tribute evening, the FFF is waiting for the French team to return to play at the Stade de France. It will not be before the first international window of the year 2026. At best.
