The list of father-son duos in the Premier League is growing with the appearance of 16-year-old Gabriel Arteta Bernal, son of Mikel Arteta, in Arsenal's under-17 team. The youngster, who featured in a 3-3 Premier League Cup draw against Watford, grew up in London after his father joined Arsenal in 2011. Having played in the Gunners' academy for several years, he now plays on the right wing and aims to follow in the footsteps of Bukayo Saka, while staying away from his father's much more defensive role.
Gabriel thus joins other children of legends of the English championship who distinguish themselves in Premier League clubs. Lorenz Ferdinand, son of Rio Ferdinand, recently signed his first professional contract at Brighton, while Kai Rooney, son of Wayne Rooney, and Jaden and Reigan Heskey, sons of Emile Heskey, are also progressing through the youth teams of Manchester United and Manchester City.
