This is the whole paradox of Ligue 1+. It is difficult to blame the platform launched by the LFP to broadcast the French championship. However, the solution imagined to bounce back after the fiascos of the previous episodes (Mediappro and a lesser degree Dazn) is far from solving all the financial problems of the clubs.

During a conference called “Ligue1+: French football resumes its breath”, as part of the “Tomorrow Le Sport” festival, Nicolas de Tavernost took stock of the launch of the channel.

According to the Team, the director general of LFP Media raised his objectives in terms of development, hoping “2.25 million subscribers” By the end of the 2028-2029 season, in just under four years. For the moment, Ligue 1+ is in the nails, since the forecasts were tabling on 1.15 million subscribers at the end of the cous season. As of September 15, we were already) 1.026 million customers, according to figures communicated by the leading body of French professional football.

Ligue 1+, the drop in income is confirmed

From this point of view, Ligue 1+ can display its satisfaction. However, despite this launch that can be considered successful, the prospects are not necessarily pleasing. With its attractive price, the platform does not generate enough income.

“The chain planned to make about 170 million euros in turnover this season”, explains Nicolas de Tavernost. We are very far from the billion euros dreamed of by Vincent Labrune a few years ago, which also included international rights.

“With Ligue1+, income for clubs” will be much lower than what was previously “, admits of Tavernost, who still keeps faith in the future: ” There will be a progressive rise. »»
