Last Friday, Mundo Deportivo indicated that several meetings had taken place between A22, promoter of the Super League, and UEFA. The Spanish media detailed the thing a little by evoking the fact that the idea would be to divide the 36 clubs of the current Champions League with the first 18 which would play the eight games of the first phase, and the following 18 would play eight other more balanced meetings, drawn by lot as is currently the case. But the information was denied.

This Monday, RMC revealed that he had contacted who “Categorically reaffirmed”
that no modification of the Champions League was in preparation. However, the European body confirmed that there had been several meetings between Théodore Theodoridis, his secretary general, with the representative of A22, Anas Laghrari.

UEFA qualified these meetings as
“Formal” And once again refuted that an agreement could have been reached to modify the C1 in 2027. “The media cited the body on the subject. “These meetings took place in public, and any assertion that they were 'secret' is completely false. »» For UEFA, things are so clear, there was “No official result”.

The super league always rejected

The revelations made by MD have anyway “Surprised the various UEFA interlocutors contacted by RMC”. For them, this information came “From a newspaper close to Joan Laporta” (boss of Barça) should therefore not be taken into consideration. Four and a half years after the attempted launch completely missed from the Super League by several large European stables, the project is therefore still stopped.

Only two clubs, in this case FC Barcelona and Real Madrid (and to a lesser extent Juventus), continue to carry this project insistently. UEFA is officially not interested.
