Succession of Hütter: The number 1 target of Monaco says no

While the departure of Adi Hütter seems to be clearing, the management of AS Monaco activates behind the scenes to find a replacement for him. A priority track, leading to a familiar name for French football and a modern profile, had been quickly activated. The princely club thought of holding a credible option to relaunch its project. But according to the latest information, the response of the coach contacted was a categorical “no”. A dry and unexpected refusal that is surprising.

Thiago Motta declines the Monegasque offer

This target is none other than Thiago Motta. According to information from journalist Fabrizio Romano, the former PSG midfielder, free from any contract, was contacted by Monaco but would not be “Not interested” by the post. A camouflet for the Principality club, which had made him one of his favorites to succeed Hütter. This Italian-Brazilian decision not to even go into negotiations is a first blow in the quest for a new coach.

This refusal has something to surprise. If Thiago Motta comes out of a very successful experience in Bologna, which he described for the Champions League, his following passage to Juventus ended in failure and a dismissal after only a few months. Without a club since last March, we would have thought that the Monegasque project, with participation in the Champions League, was an ideal opportunity to revive. By declining the offer, Motta sends a strong message: it aims above, or awaits a project that seduces it more, even if it means taking the risk of staying on the sidelines.

A disavowal for the AS Monaco project?

Beyond the choice of the coach, this refusal is also a disavowal for AS Monaco. The fact that a free coach, and emerging from a mixed experience, is not even interested in the position questions about the current attractiveness of the club. The princely project, formerly a popular destination, seems to have lost its aura. This public “no” is a negative signal that could complicate negotiations with other renowned technicians.

Thiago Motta made a daring bet, which he could one day regret. For Monaco, this refusal is a setback that forces him to review his plans and turn to other options, such as Edin Terzić or Laurent Blanc. Management must now act quickly to find a new strong man capable of removing a group plagued by doubt, but this first failure in his quest has already added a dose of additional pressure.
