OM is still enjoying its success against Ajax in the Champions League, but Facundo Medina's injury darkens the horizon. The Argentinian central defender will be absent for about two months due to an ankle sprain, depriving the club of one of his pillars in defense while the Champions League and League 1 are linked.
This situation could however benefit Ultisses Garcia. Solicited in recent weeks for a departure, notably by FC Nantes, the Swiss side has chosen to stay in Marseille. And the bet could be paid: Garcia could integrate the list of players allowed to compete in the Champions League, replacing Medina. OM has officially made the request to UEFA and is now awaiting an answer, as indicated by
RMC Sport.
Medina, no C1 before …
UEFA regulations authorize clubs to replace an injured player until the sixth day of the group phase, but this joker can only be used once and for an absence of at least 60 days. If Medina finds the form faster than expected, he will nevertheless not be able to replay in the Champions League before this minimum period.
In the meantime, Garcia was present in training this Friday, on the eve of the trip to Metz for the 7th day of Ligue 1. Leonardo Balerdi, absent against Ajax and stayed on the bench against the Dutch club, also participated in the day's meeting. Geoffrey Kondogbia and Hamed Junior Traorรฉ were still absent.
