Jude Bellingham was elected English player of the year for the 2024/25 season.

The 22 -year -old Real Madrid star won this award for the first time, ahead of Harry Kane and Declan Rice. Bellingham scored a goal and issued three assists for Three Lions in eight appearances this season, winning this title. Kane scored eight goals in 11 games, including five in six games in 2025 under the direction of the new coach Thomas Tuchel.

Bellingham is ahead of Kane and Rice for the title of player of the year

Bellingham became the 14th different player to win this male title, after Cole Palmer last season and Bukayo Saka the previous two years. The Real Madrid star also becomes the second player only to win this award when he plays out of England, after Owen Hargreaves in 2006.

This prize, awarded by the supporters, saw Declan Rice finish second, author of three goals and five impressive assists in a more advanced role in the midfield of Three Lions. Captain Kane finished third after an exceptional season in club and selection, which recently saw him finish 13th in the Ballon d'Or.

If the quality of Bellingham has never been questioned, the fact that he wins this award could surprise more than one, given the form of Kane, in particular, under the direction of Tuchel. Among his four goals, Bellingham notably equalized at the end of the match during the defeat against Greece last fall and delivered two assists in the overwhelming 5-0 victory against the Republic of Ireland, also under the orders of Lee Carsley. He delivered only one assist in four appearances under Tuchel and was forfeited for the international break in September due to an injury. He returned after several months of absence following an operation in the shoulder, Real losing 5-2 against his city rival, Atlético Madrid, last week.

Bellingham Prophet in his country

Bellingham has become a world star in Real Madrid, winning the Champions League and La Liga, among other titles in an exceptional first season with the Merengues, which earned him a crowned player of the Liga year for the 2023/24 season.

Bellingham may have been disappointed not to have won the title of player of the year in England last year, Palmer having ahead of her despite his entry into play during the euro. The two players undoubtedly experienced highlights during the English route in the tournament: Palmer scored during the final defeat against Spain, while Bellingham's acrobatic return in additional time against Slovakia was undoubtedly the highlight of the Tournament for the Gareth Southgate team.

The former Birmingham City and Borussia Dortmund player compensated last year's disappointment with the price of this year 2024/25 and hopes that it is not the last time that he is crowned best player in his country.
