Botafogo no longer makes the South American continent dream. Less than a year after winning the first copa libertadores in its history, the Carioca club seems to be mired in a negative spiral. The fall is as fast as it is spectacular, and the supporters, yet still enthusiastic after the double Copa-Championnat of 2024, now see their patience put to the test.
The one in the center of all criticisms is John Textor. The 60 -year -old American businessman, already disputed for his OL management, has become a real pariah in Brazil. In front of the Olympic stadium Nilton Santos, supporters recently demonstrated, brandishing banners qualifying him as “Clown and crook”. Popular anger reflects the frustration of club faithful in the face of chaotic sports management.
Ancelotti facing the storm
Botafogo's sports report this season perfectly illustrates this disaffection. Eliminated from the knockout stages of the Copa Libertadores by the LDU Quito and prematurely out of the Brazilian National Cup by Vasco Da Gama, the club is struggling to regain its level. The multiple changes of coaches orchestrated by Textor have destabilized a workforce yet efficient, accentuating doubts around its management.
Despite the arrival of Davide Ancelotti last July, the situation has hardly improved. The technician retains Textor's confidence, but the results are slow to follow and tensions persist internally. The club remains stuck in a cycle of irregular performance and increasing dissatisfaction of supporters.
