Didier Droga's career trajectory is particularly atypical. The Ivorian international spent several seasons in what was still called at the time second division, before discovering the elite of French football in January 2002.

Indeed, it was under the colors of Le Mans that the attacker started as a professional. The MUC 72 then evouted at home in the STade Léon-Bollée, in reference to French links and automaker born in the prefecture of Sarthe.

Then passed through En Avant de Guingamp and Olympique de Marseille, Didier Drogba will become one of the best attackers on the planet during his visit to Chelsea. Between 2004 and 2012, the native of Abidjan was literally capsizing Stamford Bridge. And yet, as incredible as it may seem, the Blues enclosure is not the stage where he preferred to evolve during his career.

Drogba, the Léon-Bollée stadium marked with a red iron

“I am more marked by Léon-Bollée than by Stamford Bridge, because there is a hierarchy in history. It is not because I won the Champions League with Chelsea that Le Mans or Léon-Bollée lose their place. On the contrary, it was thanks to these solid foundations that I was able to have such a good career ”, he said during a given interview
Ouest-France.

The Leon-Bollée football club has evolved in Léon-Bollée until the month of January 2011 before the opening of MMARENA on January 29, 2011. Since July 27, 2022, this place has been renamed Marie Marvingt. It is the first French sports enclosure of more than 20,000 places to bear a female name.
