The story between Adrien Rabiot and Olympique de Marseille ended in chaos. A fight in the locker room, a sidelining, and a hasty transfer to AC Milan. Since his arrival in Italy, the French midfielder lives again. And during one of his first media outings, he did not fail to sing the praises of his new coach, Massimiliano Allegri. Words which, read between the lines, sound like a settling of accounts.

Rabiot's coded message to his former coach

“I have the feeling that something big is being born, because Allegri is very strong to create groups of winners and involve everyone”,
told Rabiot to
La Gazzetta dello Sport. Apparently, a simple compliment. But when we know the context of his departure from OM, this sentence takes on a completely different dimension. It is a disguised criticism, a subtle but very real tackle addressed to Roberto de Zerbi.

By praising Allegri's ability to “Involve everyone”he implies that this was not the case in Marseille. Speaking of a coach who “Create groups of winners”he indirectly points to a coach who, according to him, broke his by pushing him outside. It is a polished way of saying that in Milan, he found the coach that he no longer had at OM.

A fusional relationship that turned into a nightmare

However, the relationship between Rabiot and de Zerbi had everything from the idyll. The Italian coach considered him his “son”, had appointed him captain, had always defended him. But the reindeer incident has shattered everything. The rupture was brutal, and obviously, the injuries are not yet closed.

This media outing from Rabiot is undoubtedly no coincidence. It is a way of turning the page, and reminding everyone that he has found an environment where he feels confident. An environment where the coach, according to him, knows how to manage a wardrobe. The message went well. It remains to be seen how it will be received on the side of Marseille.
