The arrival of Lucas Zidane in Algerian selection has already caused a lot of ink, dividing opinion between pride and accusations of opportunism. But it was perhaps just the beginning. According to the revelations of the famous Algerian journalist Hafid Derradji, another member of the siblings, and not the least, is about to join him: his young brother Elyaz.

Elyaz, the most promising of the Zidane siblings

At 19, Elyaz Zidane is considered by many to be the most talented of the four sons of the legend. Grand and powerful central defender (1.94m), he made all his classes at Real Madrid before joining the Betis Seville to launch his career. U17 European champion with France, he wore the blue jersey in all categories of young people. But its international future could well be written in green.

According to Derradji, contacts have already been established between the Algerian federation and the young player, who “would not be opposed to the idea” to join the Fennecs. The final decision would be made after the U20 World Cup, which he is currently playing with France.

A relaunched national debate

This rumor strengthens with force the debate which agitates Algeria with each convocation of a binational. The arrival of Lucas, at 27, was freshly welcomed by part of the supporters, who saw it as a default choice. The arrival of Elyaz, at only 19, would be perceived differently. It would be a real career choice, a bet on the future.

The fact remains that the name of Zidane is heavy to wear. And it will not be enough to calm the criticisms of those who believe that we snub the local talents. But for Vladimir Petkovic, the coach, the arrival of a defender trained in Real Madrid and Betis would be an undeniable sport. The case is far from being concluded, but it has the merit of asking an essential question: is Algeria ready to welcome, for good, the Zidane dynasty?
