The seventh place of Kylian Mbappé in the Golden Ball 2025 classification goes badly for certain observers.

Absent from the Ceremony at the Châtelet Theater like all members of Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappé nevertheless followed the results of the Ballon d'Or 2025. And without much surprise, the tricolor striker had to settle for a new accessit on Monday evening.

Unsurprisingly, Le Bondynois had to abandon the Gerd Müller trophy rewarding the most prolific striker of the season. Winner the previous year with Harry Kane, he saw Viktor Gyökeres succeed him, the Swedish having compiled no less than 63 goals in 58 matches with Sporting Lisbon and the Swedish selection.

And in the Golden Ball classification, Kylian Mbappé, sixth last year, this time had to please seventh place. If this ranking allows him to chain an eighth consecutive top 10 -a record for a French player -, the Real Madrid striker, with his 44 goals scored last season and his golden shoe, undoubtedly hoped for better.

“Kylian Mbappé seventh, this is not possible in fact”

But the white season of Real necessarily weighed heavy in the votes. Besides, according to Johan Micoud, Kylian Mbappé does not deserve to be so high despite his statistics. “There are some who put 45 goals and they are seventh”, he thus launched on the set of the evening team while the other stakeholders debated about the 26e Place d'Erling Haaland despite statistics that are still so impressive.

“And yet, they had a very, very average season. It's surprising, added the former Bordeaux. I'm sorry to see Mbappé seventh, this is not possible in fact. »» And to those who opposed him that he had been golden shoe, Johan Micoud was categorical: “The one who put the most goals in Europe is Gyokeres. The clues, you leave them aside. »»
