With his coronation Monday at the Châtelet Theater, Ousmane Dembélé entered a very closed circle. The French winger of PSG is only the fourth player to have evolved in Ligue 1 the year of his Ballon d'Or. Before him, only Jean-Pierre Papin (OM, 1991), George Weah (PSG, 1995) and Lionel Messi (PSG, 2023) had offered this prestige to the French championship.

This triumph recalls how rare the native of Evreux is that an active player in Ligue 1 wins the highest individual distinction. If France has six winners for a total of eight golden balls, most were rewarded while they were playing abroad. Dembélé's success thus highlights the found level of Ligue 1 and PSG on the international scene.
