Samuel Umtiti does not waste time. As soon as the crampons stored on Monday, the former defender of the Blues already knows what his future will be.
In an interview with the media of its training club, Olympique Lyonnais, the 2018 world champion has unveiled its new ambition: to become a coach. A project embraced by so many retired football before him, and which the native of Yaoundé perceives as the logical continuation of his journey.
A future already written
Umtiti says that this desire has lived in it since its first steps with the Gones. “I am so passionate, I watch all the matches. If we look at the interviews I did when I had just started as a professional, I said that I was going to become a coach, I already knew it. For the moment, I am not, but I know that I will pass my diplomas. It takes a few years, I need to train myself ”he explains.
With his 31 selections and 4 goals in the French team, Umtiti considers the position of coach as the summit to be reached:
“It's different from being a player and coach. Being a coach would be the ultimate goal I set. »»
