Chelsea wanted to chain after her two victories against West Ham (1-5) and Fulham (2-0) in the Premier League, and for that Enzo Maresca had aligned an unpublished eleven, with the first tenure of Jorrel Hato and that of Facundo Buonanotte. Alejandro Garnacho and Cole Palmer were on the bench at the start, a strong choice of the coach. However, the tactical plan of the Italian coach was quickly undermined, since it was Brentford who opened the scoring on a counterattack concluded by the German Schade in the 34th minute.

In the second half, the blues showed a completely different face. The entrance to Cole Palmer in the 56th minute changed the situation: the Englishman quickly equalized with the left foot, before Caicedo, served by Garnacho for his first under the London colors, registered a superb goal of a clear strike (1-2, 85th). But against all odds, Carvalho equalized for Brentford in the 92nd minute, snatching a 2-2 draw and leaving Chelsea frustrated on the wire.
