Did Olivier Giroud really draw a line on the French team? International retired for more than a year, after a final selection in the semi-final of Euro 2024 against Spain, the 38-year-old striker then received a moving tribute last March before a meeting against Croatia. Since then, Giroud has justified his decision by explaining several times that it was time to give way to young people. Questioned by Squarethe top scorer in the history of the Blues, however, admitted that he would have trouble saying no if Didier Deschamps wanted to summon him.

“I completed the buckle at the 2022 World Cup that we were on the verge of winning. In 2024, I started playing much less. I felt that it was time to give way to young people. Even if I am a hit this year, it is not a goal to return to the French team ”he assured before adding with an embarrassed smile. “To refuse the French team is something else. You take me by feelings. If he really needs me and he has no one else, he calls me, refusing it is delicate. ”
