Olympique de Marseille announced a major change this Friday.

L'Olympique de Marseilleit's over… for the female section. While the men's team currently faces FC Lorient at the Vélodrome for their return to business in the French championship, the club has announced a major change.

The female section, which bore the same name as the other club teams, makes its moulting. Exit “Women's OM”: the players of the club will now be called the Marseillaises.

Why the OM women's female team changes its name

OM justified this change of branding by the desire to have an identity going beyond the framework of sport. “Marseillaises are no longer just defined as a football team. They become a brand, a movement, a state of mind. This new identity embodies Marseille culture – made of passion, resilience and unity – and opens up to a lifestyle and international dimension. Their launch slogan, “all revolutions begin with a Marseillaise”, announces the color: to federate far beyond football, around universal values ​​of inclusion, progress and freedom. »»

As a reminder, the OM women's team was promoted in Arkema Première League for this 2025-26 season.
