Rumors are gaining momentum on the side of Algiers. While Vladimir Petkovic crosses a zone of turbulence despite an exemplary statistical assessment, a name circulates more and more in the corridors of the Algerian federation. That of Patrice Beaumelle, a 45 -year -old French technician currently stationed in Qatar. A track that could well become reality if the noose continues to tighten around Swiss.
Beaumelle's profile fits perfectly with Algerian expectations. The former assistant of Hervé Renard knows African football on the fingertips, having led Côte d'Ivoire and occupied posts in Zambia and Morocco. But above all, he masters the Algerian environment for having led MC Algiers as champion in 2024. A success that marked the spirits and made him a respected figure in the country.
A coach who dreams of the Fennecs
What makes this candidacy even more credible is Beaumelle's personal attachment to Algeria. The Frenchman has never hidden his desire to coach the Fennecs, multiplying the declarations of love in the country which saw him embracing the Muslim religion. This emotional dimension, rare in the environment, plays in its favor with a public opinion in search of authenticity.
There remains a major obstacle: Beaumelle is under contract with Umm Salal, a Qatari club that he currently runs. But Algeria has the means of its ambitions, and the technician's desire to take a CAP in his career could facilitate negotiations. The alternative Madjid Bougherra, current coach of the local team, remains on the table but seems less attractive.
Petkovic in suspected despite the results
The paradox remains striking. Petkovic displays the best point ratio in history for an Algerian coach, with a global qualification at hand. However, his dull game and his bank justifications after each match cut him from the public. In a country where passion often dictates decisions, figures are no longer enough. Beaumelle could well take advantage of this flaw to realize her Algerian dream.
