Yamal in Bayern: the deal that has never seen the light of day

Seduced, Hasan Salihamidzic and Marko Neppe had then contacted Ivan de la Peña, player's advisor, to establish a first link with the family. But a few months later, a major turning point: Yamal entrusted his interests to Jorge Mendes. The Portuguese super-agent placed a symbolic price of around 5 million euros to convince the family, while imposing strict conditions. In Bayern, the internal debates brought the priority. The project was paused, then abandoned.

At the same time, Yamal continued her meteoric progression at the Masia. In April 2023, he made his professional debut at only 15 years old. A few months later, he signed a contract until 2026, accompanied by a release clause of one billion euros, definitively ending the Bavarian dreams. Since then, his lease has even been extended until 2031, proof of Barça's desire to lock her gem.

For Bayern, this missed transfer leaves a bitter taste. Imagining Yamal in the Bavarian jersey is one of the big “What if?” Modern football, such as the missed meetings between Messi and Inter Milan or Cristiano Ronaldo with Arsenal. On the Spanish side, this story illustrates on the contrary the capacity of Barça to protect its nuggets despite its financial difficulties.

Three years later, Yamal is already one of the best players in the world. At 18, he was among the favorites for the next Ballon d'Or, which will be awarded on September 22 in Paris. If the outcome of the aborted transfer makes the socios smile today, it recalls that careers can switch to details. And that sometimes a video is enough to make the leaders of a European giant … totally “crazy”.
