Frank McCourt is not the most talkative leader. But the owner of Olympique de Marseille considered it good to speak, this week, to discuss a subject that does not affect his club: the alarming financial situation of Ligue 1.

“French football lost 1.3 billion euros last year. Which company would accept such results by retaining the same management? “, Asks the American businessman in the columns of Figaro.

Frank McCourt thus criticizes the management of the LFP in recent years, especially in the soap opera of TV rights. “We were guaranteed certain levels of TV rights. On this basis, clubs have built their budgets and made sometimes multi -year commitments. But these projections have not been respected, and the clubs today suffer the consequences directly ”, he deplores.

McCourt has a new ally, and some opponents

Frank McCourt clearly attacks the League and its president Vincent Labrune, whose work he judges ineffective.
“French football is a three-headed organization: the LFP, supposed to represent the clubs, the clubs themselves then the French Football Federation. We do not need such a complex diagram, only two partner entities, professional clubs on the one hand and the federation on the other ”explains the Bostonian, who therefore wants the skin of the LFP.

In this interview, Frank McCourt is expressed in the company of Joseph Oughourlian, the boss of RC Lens, his new ally. And the two men scratch in passing Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the president of PSG. “Joseph and I have very good relations with Nasser. We just see the world differently. He recently explained that the coronation of PSG in C1 was a lapr that things work well within the LFP. For him, the league seems to work because it works well for PSG. I think we have a clearly different vision of the subject. »»
