Since their separation in the summer of 2024, Kylian Mbappé and PSG each follow their way. The striker now shines in Real Madrid, while the Parisian club savor his historic coronation in the Champions League without his star. However, the conflict between the two parties is not closed and continues on the judicial level.

The last season of Mbappé at PSG had been marked by extreme tensions. In summer 2023, the attacker announced that he would not extend his contract and would leave free. Initially dismissed and put in the “loft”, he was then reinstated, but the discomfort remained palpable. This context is detailed in the book
From hell to paradise, the secrets of the two seasons that have changed the history of PSGpublished on September 3 by Fabrice Hawkins and Apolline Bouchery, and taken up by RMC Sport.

On August 11, 2023, Mbappé's lawyer, Maître Delphine Verheyden, sent a letter to PSG to formalize the reintegration of his client. She specifies that the day before, “A new interview of more than an hour and a half still took place telephone between him and President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi”. The player, threatened to stay on the bench all season and accused of harming the club, then proposed to reduce his bonuses to appease the situation and put an end to the “Destruction of his image”.

Financial concessions

It details the agreement envisaged: reduction of 55 million euros gross bonuses, reintegration in the group from August 12 and publication of a joint press release announcing the end of the dispute. Mbappé insisted that “What matters above all for him is to play football and win the maximum of titles with his team”. This letter triggers two crucial meetings, before and after the PSG-Lorient match, allowing a compromise between the two camps.

Despite these discussions, no bilateral contract has been signed and the two parties do not seem to have understood in the same way. The player was reinstated in the first team but the continuation showed that neither Mbappé nor the Parisian leaders had interpreted these exchanges in an identical way.
