After a long period of negotiations, Manchester United agreed with Betis Seville for the sale of Antony, for an amount of 25 million euros including 3 million potential bonuses and a resale clause of 50 % on all future profit, reports The Athletic. After a successful loan in the second half of the 2024-2025 season (9 goals and 5 assists in 26 games), the Spanish club wanted to permanently recruit the 23-year-old Brazilian winger. The discussions were tense due to a dispute concerning the player's drop in salary, but an agreement was finally reached without the Red Devils having to compensate for a financial loss estimated at 4 million euros for the International Auriverde.

Arrived in Manchester United in 2022 for 95 million euros, the former Ajax player has never really met expectations, with a single correct season followed by a net decline. Settled by Erik Ten Hag and loss of motivation, he said he had lost the taste of football in Manchester. If this final transfer constitutes a good opportunity for Antony to continue on its momentum, it also symbolizes a very expensive financial failure for United, which will not have been able to promote its investment.
