Already the author of two goals in Ligue 1 with LOSC, Olivier Giroud, who will celebrate his 39th birthday, can he get out of his international retirement? His former teammate René Girard is questioned on this subject by Sud Ouest.

The beginnings of Olivier Giroud with LOSC are explosive! After his catastrophic passage at Los Angeles FC alongside Hugo Lloris (25 MLS matches, 3 goals), the 2018 world champion opted for LOSC and directly convinced during the preparation matches, before shaking the nets during the first two days of Ligue 1, against Brest (3-3) then giving victory to the DOGUES during the shock against AS Monaco (1-0) last.

René Girard is questioned by South West On his former center center in Montpellier, with whom he was obviously crowned French champion in 2012 (thanks to the 21 goals of the attacker recruited at the FC towers). The 71 -year -old coach is very happy for Giroud, who is the very example of very high level resilience, showing that “When you don't let go, you are able to achieve magnificent things”.

“He breathes health, happiness. It is equal to itself. We see that his age does not impact it on 90 minutes. He led his whole career in humility and what I still see is humility. His choice of club has always been reflected in relation to its evolution and to know Lille it is still because it corresponds to him. It is the best club in France that could welcome him. LOSC has made a very good deal ”launches Girard in the columns of South West.

Giroud, “A very useful boy in a collective”

Questioned by a possible return from Olivier Giroud to the French team, René Girard is rather favorable and recalls that the central center of almost 39 years (September 30) is
“A very useful boy in a collective”,, “A very rare profile” and that it is, for the moment, “Physically well”

If he has made a full season with the Lille, the former partner of Antoine Griezmann could why not strengthen the group of Didier Deschamps for the 2026 World Cup in North America, especially if the selectors can count on 26 players. Girard does not forget, however, that his former player is “Someone who knows what he wants”. He had decided to retire international as Euro 2024 approaches.
