Didier Deschamps is a legend of football, it's as simple as that. In 2018, he became the third world footballer to be crowned world champion as a coach! The 1998 Blues' captain joined Brazilian Mario Zagallo and the German Franz Beckenbauer. But, after the lost final tales Argentina in 2022, on penalties in Qatar, “the Dèche” holds a last chance to win two World Cups as a coach.

The Italian Vittorio Pozzo is the only coach to have succeeded in this feat in all the history of the round ball, being on the Banc de la Nazionale during the coronations in 1934 and 1938. Brazil made a back-to-back with his Idol Pelé, in 1958 and 1962, but with two different technicians, Vicente Feola and Aymoré Moreira. It was another world and Didier Deschamps would strike very, very strong.

Deschamps has another record in sight at the next 2026 World Cup in North America, if the Blues obviously qualify for this World Cup organized in Canada, the United States and Mexico. Kylian Mbappé and his teammates start next Friday against Ukraine, the Outsider of the hen, during a match relocated to Poland, then against Iceland, the following Tuesday, at the Parc des Princes.

Deschamps two victories from the record

For his fourth and ultimate world world, Deschamps will then be able to break the record for victories in the competition as a coach. With 14 victories gleaned in 2014, 2018 and 2022, the Basque is second in this awards equally with Zagallo, with two less successes than Helmut Schön, on the bench of Western Germany during the 1966, 1970 and 1974 editions.

To become the coach with the most victories in the World Cup, Deschamps must therefore see his team win the first three games in the group phase. This is possible, since the tournament goes to 48 participants and facilitates the task even more at the heads of the standard, which will be 12. If Mbappé and others end up at the top of their pool, they could benefit from an affordable 16th finals against a second in group or one of the best eight. See you next summer!
