Algeria cries one of its own. Former defender of the Algerian selection, Abdallah Liégeon died this Wednesday, August 27 at the age of 67. The one who had carried out the Fennecs jersey five times (between 1982 and 1986) died of a long illness.
Born in Oran, Abdallah Liégeon began his professional career in Besançon in 1975, after a unsuccessful test on the side of Saint-Etienne. But it was in Monaco, where he settled down in 1981, that he particularly distinguished himself. On the rock, he won the French championship (1982) and the France Cup (1985), before hanging up the crampons in Strasbourg in 1989.
“It was with deep sadness that AS Monaco learned of the death of Abdallah Liégeon, former club defender from 1981 to 1987, crowned champion of France in 1982. Selected for the first time with the Fennecs in 1982, Abdallah Liégeon will not be selected to compete in the World Cup in Spain for disciplinary reasons. Recalled in 1985, this time he will be summoned for the 1986 World Cup, during which he played two matches, including that against Brazil.
