Real Sociedad conceded a second consecutive liga draw by sharing the points with Espanyol (2-2) at the Reale Arena on the occasion of the 2nd day. After a frustrating first draw against Valence (1-1), the Basques hoped to launch their season, but they were quickly surprised by Pere Milla, author of the opening of the score in the 10th minute. Worse, Espanyol has doubled the penalty spot thanks to Puado, leaving the real back to the wall. In the second half, Sergio Francisco's men reacted with character: Barrenetxea reduced the gap in the 61st before Oskarsson was elated eight minutes later (69th). With two points taken in two games, the Real remains in search of its first victory, while the Espanyol confirms its good dynamic after its inaugural success against Atlético and settled (temporarily) in 3rd place in the ranking.

For its part, Villarreal took place at home against Girona with a brilliant victory (5-0) at the Estadio de la Cerámica. Former Lille Nicolas Pépé quickly showed the way by opening the scoring in the 7th minute, before Buchanan (16th) and Marín (25th) widen the gap. Untenable, Buchanan then signed an express triple by adding two new goals (28th and 64th), sealing a show of strength. With this broad success, the yellow submarine signs one of the most striking performances of this start to the season and goes up in first place.
