Big blow for John Textor! Botafogo will not win the Copa Libertadores for the second time in a row. Opposed to LDU Quito in the round of 16, the Brazilian club got out earlier than expected from the competition.
The scenario had however started well for Botafogo: a 1-0 victory at home at the first leg which suggested a qualification for the quarters. But in the return match, the Brazilians fell 2-0 on the lawn of the Ecuadorian club.
And yet John Textor had done everything to strengthen his team. Since winter 2024, the American spent no less than 110 million euros in the recruitments of Arthur Cabral, Danilo, Joaquin Correa, Alvaro Montoro or Neto.
John Textor remains optimistic
On his social networks, John Textor wanted to react. Despite his own defeat, the American was confident for the future of the club: ” We know that it is not possible, but we want to win this trophy each year. Our club has changed since we gathered, because we are now expecting to win the biggest trophies and beat the big teams. ”
The former President of Lyon then reiterated his confidence in his coach, Davide Ancelotti arrived on the Botafogo bench last July. “” I trust this coach, and I trust these men. We will move forward and we will still win. Together we will still win ”,
he confides.
