The Merseyside police announced on Saturday the arrest of a 47-year-old man, suspected of having uttered racist insults against Antoine Semenyo during the victory of Liverpool against Bournemouth (4-2) Friday evening at the opening of the Premier League. The individual is suspected of an offense of a racist nature affecting public order, notably reported the BBC and The Athletic.
Shortly before half an hour of play, the Ghanaian winger of Bournemouth, double scorer in the meeting, had alerted referee Anthony Taylor after hearing the words. The match was then briefly interrupted, Taylor exchanging with the coaches and captains of the two teams before deciding the resumption of the game.
