Fabien Barthez's ordeal

The supporters of Stade Rennais (except the youngest) will remember the good memory of Alexander Frei when OM arrives on Friday evening, at the opening of the Ligue 1 season (kick -off 8:45 pm, live on Ligue 1+). In March 2004, the Swiss goalscorer of the Red and Black offered a legendary evening to the public of the Lorient road stadium (now called Roazhon Park) by scoring a resounding quadruple in Fabien Barthez!

Between his two matches of the eighth UEFA Cup final against Liverpool, the OM of Didier Drogba was 6th in Ligue 1 and had the opportunity to get closer to the podium. On a deviation from the Ivorian striker, Laurent Battles opened the scoring of an acrobatic recovery (30th). The start of a huge show. The fault of a Marseille defense at the absent. And to a guardian world champion 98 not free from reproach. As a reminder, the goalkeeper of the 1993 Champions League returned to the Heaven and White in January 2004.

Alex Frei equalized to the second pole on an eccentric free kick by Olivier Monterrubio (35th), before giving the advantage to his team by taking over a center of the same left -hander passed by FC Nantes that “Fabulous Fab” has not managed to go out. Drogba in turn equalized an enormous recovery in central Egyptian Mido (45th). 2-2 at halftime!

Overpowered Drogba, Barthez Catastrophic

This reindeer was really crazy. Alexander Frei came out of his box by sending a 25 -meter strike in the aim of a decidedly catastrophic Barthez (60th). Who to answer him? The inevitable Didier Drogba, who overthrew everything in his path to serve Mido back (73rd). The next minute, Frei was abandoned full axis by Abdoulaye Méïté to crucify OM (74th).

Then 24 years old, Alexander Frei, who then enjoys Borussia Dortmund from his sense of goal, finished 2nd top scorer in Ligue 1 in 2003-2004-behind Djibril Cissé and in front of Drogba (20 goals against 19)-then top scorer the following exercise (20 goals, in front of Mickaël Pagis and Pauleta).
