For several months, the story between Robert Lewandowski and Poland seemed definitively broken. Damaged by his armband by Michal Probierz, FC Barcelona striker had slammed the selection door, injured in his pride. Between scathing statements and media criticism, the ditch seemed impossible to fill. But the arrival of Jan Urban on the Polish bench has changed everything, opening the way to an unexpected return.

Lewandowski's green light

The new coach confirmed that he had contacted his emblematic player to find out if he wanted to return. “He said yes”Urban revealed to RMF FM, acting a first step towards reconciliation. The brassard's question remains unanswered, the coach saying wanting to consult Piotr Zielinski and the players' council before deciding. The objective is clear: to avoid turning on internal tensions while Poland plays big in qualifying.

Third of their group behind Finland and the Netherlands, the Poles know that their historic captain can weigh in the scale. With 85 goals in 158 selections, Lewandowski remains the number one offensive weapon. Jan Urban does not hide that his return is strategic : “Robert is a very important figure for our national team. »»
The coach is counting on his experience to guide the group during the decisive deadlines of September.

The next decisive meetings

Poland will face the Netherlands outside on September 4, before receiving Finland three days later. Two matches that could relaunch the race for qualification. For Urban, the rapid integration of Lewandowski is essential in order to find a positive dynamic, even if the hierarchy of the capital remains to be defined.

At 36, Lewandowski continues to display solid performance with Barça. His return to selection symbolizes the end of a crisis which threatened to deprive Poland of its greatest asset. Whether the armband is returned to him or not, the essential is elsewhere: the dialogue is restored, and the 2026 World Cup mission can resume with a complete workforce.
