On Wednesday, Olympique de Marseille formalized the arrival of Timothy Weah, loaned by Juventus Turin with a compulsory purchase option. This transfer marks the return of a prestigious name to La Canebière, that of a family already deeply rooted in the history of French football.
George Weah, PSG hero in the 1990s, also joined the historic rival of the capital, OM, for a season (2000-2001). Like his son Timothy, trained at PSG without imposing himself, he had also known several stages before arriving on the Canebière. The arrival of the young American opens a new chapter in this family saga.
But this inheritance story is not unique to the Weah. Long before them, the thuram wrote their own page, as recalled Ouest-France. Lilian Thuram, 1998 world champion, is a legend of AS Monaco where he played 193 matches. His son Khéphren followed his steps.
Inheritances at PSG and OM
If the elder of thuram, Marcus, has taken a different path than that of his father, Khéphren was trained and launched professionally to the club of the rock. A course all the more remarkable since the midfielder is now evolving at Juventus Turin, a club where Lilian Thuram has also left a strong footprint with 205 matches played.
Other families have also made their way in France. Youri Djorkaeff bore the colors of PSG between 1995 and 1996, like his father Jean in the 1970s. More recently, the Ayew family marked OM, with Father Abedi Pelé, legend of the club (winner of the Champions League in 1993), and his sons André and Jordan, present respectively 10 and 8 years under the Marseille jersey.
