Total turnaround: Griezmann signs at Atlético … But already prepares his suitcases?

History seemed to have to last again. Barely a few weeks ago, Antoine Griezmann extended his contract with Atlético until 2027, sealing what looked like a new love pact with the club of his life. The French international, a totem of a decade among the Colchoneros, had chosen stability in an ever more moving football world. However, in Madrid as elsewhere, appearances are sometimes misleading.

Monterrey invites himself into the Griezmann file

According to information from journalist Diego Armando Medina, The Mexican Club of Monterrey would have recently surveyed Griezmann's situation. A rumor which, at first glance, seems improbable as French embodies the identity of Atlético. But in a transfer window that no longer has borders, the Rayados dream of a media and sporting blow by attracting the former Barcelona. A transfer evaluated between $ 18 and $ 20 million would be envisaged.

Behind the scenes, several signs suggest that everything is not as frozen as expected. The arrival of Julian Alvarez has upset the offensive hierarchy. Griezmann, although very successful (17 goals, 9 assists last year), only played 13 games in full and seems to start the season without guarantees on his status. The extension of contract actually hid a change of role, more secondary, assumed but potentially poorly lived in the long term.

Mexico as a surprise outing door for Griezmann?

A surprise … but not a nonsense

That a departure is looming as early is still a major surprise. At 34, Griezmann is not yet retired, and leaving Europe for Mexico would represent an unexpected turn. Monterrey hopes to take advantage of the sweet transition that Atlético seems to orchestrate. But the interest of such a club remains to be confirmed, both sporting and financially.

Be that as it may, Griezmann's future no longer seems as linear as expected. A departure in 2026 to the MLS was already envisaged, but the possibility of an immediate rebound in Central America redefines the perspectives. The end of a cycle in Madrid? It seems premature. But in a football where nothing is frozen, even the symbols can vacillate.
