FC Barcelona crosses an agitated period around Marc-André Ter Stegen. From the start of the summer, the Catalan club clearly displayed its intention to separate from the German goalkeeper, which was largely injured last season. The situation was still complicated when Ter Stegen chose to have the back operated, exposing to a long unavailability.
The convalescence of the porter could however allow Barça to temporarily lighten his constraints to record his players with the Liga. But an obstacle persists: the goalkeeper refuses to sign his medical report, preventing the club from transmitting this document to the competent authorities.
Faced with this dead end,
The Blaugrana launched a disciplinary procedure. In an official press release published on its X account, the club confirmed this major decision: “FC Barcelona informs that following the disciplinary procedure opened against player Marc-André Ter Stegen, and until this procedure is definitively resolved, the club, in agreement with the sports management and the technical staff, decided to temporarily withdraw the capital of the first football team”.
This decision, expected for several weeks, is accompanied by a renewal of the group of captains. Several players, including Lamine Yamal, very often quoted in the local press, were expected. However, the candidacy of the 18 -year -old, official finalist of the Ballon d'Or 2025, was not retained.
Barça holds its new captain
It was finally Ronald Araujo, hitherto vice-captain, who will take over. “During this period, the functions of first captain will be assumed by the until now second captain, Ronald Araujo”said the press release.
The measure, strong of symbolism, sends a clear message to Ter Stegen, under contract with Barça until 2028. The club must now resolve the thorny file of the five unregistered recruits, without being able to count on its German goalkeeper.
