Christopher Nkunku failed by a Europe giant

Each transfer window, its share of surprises. And this time, it concerns Christopher Nkunku. While several European clubs seek to strengthen in attack, the French international has been proposed to one of the Cadors on the continent. But instead of getting excited, the club in question declined the offer without hesitation. A refusal that says a lot about the current situation of the former PSG player.

Inter Milan, looking for a percussion winger, has chosen not to follow up on discussions to recruit Nkunku. According to the Gazzetta dello Sportthe player was proposed by his entourage while Chelsea would have set his price at 40 million euros. But Giuseppe Marotta, Managing Director of Inter, preferred to continue negotiations with Atalanta to bring Ademola Lookman. Despite a difference of five million euros on the amount claimed, the Lombard club remains optimistic to conclude the file.

Nkunku, the shadow of the injuries and one side at half mast

This refusal is part of a particular context for Nkunku, whose rating is no longer what it was. Since his arrival in Chelsea in 2023, the attacker has struggled to regain his level. A serious knee injury removed it from the field for several months and slowed down its integration. Result: only 18 goals in two seasons and a limited influence on the game of blues. What to cool the courtiers.

Nkunku offered at Inter, but dryly refused

Opposite, Lookman remains on two very attractive campaigns in Bergamo, including that which he punctuated by a tripled in the final of the Europa League and which earned him the title of the best African player of the year. The European Vice-Champion club has even already reached an agreement with it on the contractual level. For leaders, the opportunity seemed clearer: bet on a player at the top of his form, rather than restarting an uncertain profile. Nkunku remains in expectation.

A rebound still possible?

Railed by Inter, could Nkunku bounce elsewhere or will it be forced to stay in Chelsea one more season? At 27, the former Parisian knows that he will have to quickly reverse the trend so as not to get out of radars. The transfer window is still long.
