Samuel Eto'o has never been the type to chew his words. The Cameroonian legend, which marked the history of European football, did not hesitate to rekindle an old resentment towards Zlatan Ibrahimovic on social networks. In a very noticed Instagram post, the former striker celebrated with a point of provocation the 16th anniversary of a historical transfer between FC Barcelona and Inter Milan, an exchange which deeply marked their respective careers.
In 2009, Barça, under the direction of Pep Guardiola, wanted to separate from Eto'o to bring Zlatan Ibrahimovic, then to its peak in Inter Milan. The transfer included the passage of Cameroonians to the Nerazzurri, as well as a check for 43 million euros paid by Barcelona. In his post, Eto'o tagged Zlatan and the two clubs by writing simply: “16 years already …”accompanied by several emojis, thus reviving the debate on this memorable exchange.
If Zlatan had only one season in Barcelona, without ever winning the Champions League, Eto'o, on the contrary, shone under his new colors. With Inter, he won all major trophies, including the prestigious C1 during the 2009-2010 season, even eliminating his former club in the semi-finals before triumphing in the final against Bayern Munich (2-0). This success has strengthened Eto'o's reputation, which has thus taken a good sporting revenge.
“The most beautiful deal in the history of football”
In an interview with Bein Sports, Eto'o had qualified this exchange of “More beautiful deal in the history of football”. He explained: “Pep Guardiola gave me an opportunity which I will always be grateful, that of entering even further into the history of football. It allowed Inter to do the best deal in its history. With Zlatan Ibrahimovic for 90 million euros and I in the deal, it was the most beautiful deal in the history of football. »»
Today president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fécafoot), ETO'o does not seem ready to forget this page of his past. His Instagram post has aroused a keen stir on social networks.
