No right pass for Lionel Messi! Argentinian, MLS superstar, did not travel to Austin (Texas) for the stars match between the best players in his championship and their Mexican liga counterparts (3-1 victory for MLS All-Stars).
For this unjustified absence (he was not injured), the 2022 world champion received an automatic suspension match. It will therefore be missing between Inter Miami and Cincinnati this Saturday evening in MLS.
“Lionel Messi is very upset, like all of us at the club, not to be able to play tomorrow evening. But I think we have to, as a club, tighten our elbows and adopt an attitude that puts us in front of the rest of the world ”reacted Jorge Mas, the co-owner of the Floridian club, during a press conference on Friday.
Messi was not his choice
Lionel Messi is not the only one to have been suspended since his teammate Jordi Alba is in the same case. And Inter Miami specifies that this choice to miss the star match was dictated by the club, not by the players.
“I wanted to express our total support for Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba today because the decision to leave them on the bench this week was taken by the club. I think this is an important point. I want to assure everyone that Lionel and Jordi acted in accordance with the expectations of the club ”said Mas.
