Hugo Ekitike is about to cross a new course with an imminent transfer to Liverpool. A logical progression for the French striker, who comes out of a great season at the Eintracht Frankfurt. But before putting his suitcases in England, the 23-year-old returned to his missing pass in Paris Saint-Germain, where he had landed in the summer of 2022 after shining in Reims. A transfer to 40 million euros, many hopes and resounding failure.

In the columns of The teamEkitike draws up a lucid observation: the Parisian environment has left him little margin. “I arrive in the last year of Messi and Neymar. Will get them out … you can't “he sums up. Faced with overwhelming competition, the attacker quickly understood that he would not have his chance. The lack of support and communication has finished plunging him into doubt: “I have never really helped me do better. I was not given confidence. Even in a match, I had to think in my way of getting around so as not to hinder this or that player. »»

Quickly relegated to the background, Ekitike tells that he was delivered to himself in a team where everything revolves around the stars.
“I found myself in a situation where I was forced to manage”he says. Isolation accentuated by the lack of exchange with the technical staff: “We never really took the time to chat with me to be able to help me. »»

“I was not helped”

It took three months to finally find the way to the nets. Too late to reverse the trend. Frustration grows up, criticism is raining, and the attacker finds no place. “I could have done better, it is the truth, but I was not helped me what I do better”he admits.

His departure in February 2024 towards Frankfurt finally allowed him to bounce back. In Germany, Ekitike has revived with 26 goals and 14 assists in 64 matches. What to approach this new challenge in Liverpool with confidence. And the desire, no doubt, to prove that his passage to PSG was only an accident on a journey.
