Pablo Longoria and Medhi Benatia continue to work on the transfer window of Olympique de Marseille. Several arrivals and departures have already been validated and on Saturday evening, an agreement was reached with the Stade Rennais for the sale of Quentin Merlin and Valentin Rongier. The two former Nantes people will therefore take the direction of Brittany in the coming weeks.
After a good euro with the hopes, Quentin Merlin saw his rating gaining value and OM took advantage of this to part with it. Recruited for ten million euros at FC Nantes in January 2024, the tricolor side had however established itself in the Phocaean workforce of Roberto de Zerbi last season.
For Valentin Rongier, the situation was a little different. The midfielder had refused an extension offer last February, he whose contract was expired in June 2026. A year from this end of lease, Marseille therefore chose to sell him to bring a little money into his funds.
OM or Rennes, who is the best deal?
According to information from The team Unveiled this Sunday, the transaction should be done around a total amount of twenty million euros. Rather a good deal for Stade Rennais since according to the specialized site Transfermarkt, the market value of Valentin Rongier is estimated at nine million euros, and that of Quentin Merlin at fifteen million.
It remains to be seen who of Rennes or OM will have made the best blow with this double deal. Valentin Rongier and Quentin Merlin will again have to win their place in the workforce led by former Marseillais Habib Beye.
