The renovations of the Santiago-Bernabéu stadium are coming to an end, but the bill continues to climb. According to the annual accounts published this Thursday, July 17, Real Madrid has already invested 1.347 billion euros in the transformation of its legendary enclosure. On its own, the financial year 2023-2024 represents an additional 184 million euros according to AS. The club plans to complete the latest work during the 2025-2026 season, including acoustic fittings for concerts in particular. These events, such as the Bernabéu tour or VIP places, must generate strong growth income. A striking moment is expected: it will be November 16, the stadium will host the very first NFL match in Spain, between the Miami Dolphins and the Washington Commanders.

The cost of the project has more than doubled since its launch. In 2018, the club contracted an initial loan of 575 million euros. But two additional funding was necessary: 225 million euros in 2021 for the underground greenhouse of the lawn, then 370 million in 2023 to cope with the increase in costs linked to the war in Ukraine. To date, Real Madrid has reimbursed 38 million euros, still leaving a balance of 1.132 billion euros to cover.
