Kylian Mbappé finds himself in spite of himself in the center of an administrative investigation carried out by the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN), reveals Le Canard Enchaîné This Wednesday. Five CRS responsible for the security of the French team are targeted, after receiving major transfers from the Real Madrid striker. According to a tracfin document (French intelligence service, responsible for the fight against money laundering, the financing of terrorism but also against tax fraud), four chief brigadiers each received 30,000 euros, and their superior, a commander, 60,300 euros.
These payments, made in June 2023 from an account in the name of Mbappé, question the authorities by their magnitude. In total, 180,300 euros were paid. The central role of the commander, close to the player and supervisor of the other CRS, particularly draws the attention of the investigators.
According to the weekly, Mbappé signed a certificate specifying that he had paid his participation bonus to the 2022 World Cup “To the members of the team safety team as well as to different associations”. He claims to have consulted his tax lawyer, who would have assured him that these
“Donations of use” were not subject to declaration for the beneficiaries.
Donations or disguised remuneration?
But for the IGPN, the question is whether these sums really correspond to donations, or if it is rather a form of remuneration for private protection. The commander concerned would have notably accompanied Mbappé during personal trips, in Cameroon and in the Vaucluse, in the summer of 2023. Facts that the “police police” consider as potentially contrary to the duty of provision of civil servants.
Mbappé, which is not implicated at this stage, said “Ready to answer any question”. For the moment, the case only targets the police, but it throws a shadow on the captain of the Blues.
