At first glance, the rumor seems credible: according to FichajesParis Saint-Germain would be ready to spray Neymar's record to recruit Cole Palmer. However, a major invalid element of this crazy hypothesis. Chelsea's English striker, recent hero of the club World Cup, is linked to the Blues until June 2033, without the slightest liberating clause according to Goal and the Daily Mail. In other words, Chelsea has completely free hands and no obligation to yield her jewel.

Beyond the simple contractual duration, Chelsea has absolutely no financial pressure. Since the acquisition by Blueco in 2022, the club has injected more than a billion euros into the transfer market. Cole Palmer, author of a decisive double against PSG in the final of the Club World Cup, has become the number one marketing face of the Londoners. According to the Daily Mail, Todd Boehly has already rejected 120 million euros from Manchester City last winter. Why would he sell today?

PSG no longer plays this game

Even if PSG has long been associated with the most extravagant transfers, club policy has changed drastically since the arrival of Luis Enrique. From now on, priority is given to young talented players at less than 70 million euros, such as Bradley Barcola, Désiré Doué or Vitinha. Nasser Al-Khelaïfi even assured last December at Times and Sky Germany: “More overpriced stars. »» A palmer at 250 million would therefore be completely out of topic.

Another major obstacle comes from the new UEFA rules. From the 2025-26 season, clubs will have to limit their salaries and transfer depreciation to only 70% of their income. Expeating 250 million to Palmer would represent nearly 50 million euros in annual depreciation, not to mention a salary probably exceeding 15 million per year. Such an operation would explode all the ceilings authorized by UEFA.

Cole Palmer in Paris? Forget that!

A dubious adaptation and an already covered profile

Historically, few English succeeded in Ligue 1. Aside from Chris Waddle at OM, Joe Cole or David Beckham were only marketing blows without real sustainable sporting impact. In addition, tactically, Cole Palmer evolves mainly as a second attacker or right winger, posts already perfectly covered at PSG by Ousmane Dembélé, Bradley Barcola or Désiré Doué. Rather, the Parisian club is looking for a left-handed center or a left side.

Finally, this rumor appears to be a perfect “click-dream”, a smoke screen launched to enhance Cole Palmer after its recent performance. As attractive as it is, this track remains unrealistic on the sporting, financial and regulatory plans. For the moment, the hypothesis of a commitment from Palmer with the reigning European champions seems to remain a simple summer fantasy.
