The question has long lived behind the scenes of TF1: how to manage two major events scheduled exactly at the same time? On the one hand, the final of the Club World Cup, with a PSG launched to the storm of history. On the other, a France-Netherlands Female Capital for the qualification of the Blue at the Euro. For a time, the choice had been decided for the benefit of the Parisian club, relegating the teammates of Kadidiatou Diani on the secondary channel TMC. A choice that had aroused strong reactions.

The puzzle of a Sunday football for TF1

But twist this Friday: TF1 finally reviewed its copy. Under pressure and in front of a growing controversy, the group decided to give in the distribution of France-Netherlands to France 2, in order to ensure an exhibition worthy of the event. A decision welcomed by France Télévisions, which immediately announced the agreement in a statement. The PSG match remains clearly broadcast on TF1, with a free co-broadcast provided by Dazn.

This scenario prevents TF1 with a strategic and media impasse. Do not sacrifice one of the two posters while respecting the audience issues and the commercial commitments were from the puzzle. The transfer of the Blue Match to Public Service thus allows everyone to find their place: a large national chain for the players of Laurent Bonadei, a maximum showcase for PSG.

TF1 lets go of the blue: the turnaround that shakes French football

An exhibition found for the Blue

This decision gives visibility to the blue, which remain undefeated in this euro. With two victories in his pocket, a draw would be enough to reach the quarters. For TF1, this turnaround is repairing a first negative signal sent to women's football, while it is gaining popularity and importance.

This late choice, even if it satisfies the two camps, reveals the tensions between male football of clubs and women's football for selection. TF1 favored the hot news around PSG, but has not completely sacrificed the Blue. It remains to be seen if this poster sharing will result in audiences … or in the sustainable hierarchy of television football in France.
