The French coach reserved some surprises for the first shock of the Euro. A composition that questions … and that intrigues.

A few hours before the shock against England (at 9 p.m.), the tricolor starting eleven was unveiled. And at first glance, the watchword seems clear: change everything. Does this first match of Eurofémina 2025 mark a real turning point in Bonadei's strategy? Doubt is allowed.

Absences that force the hand

In reality, more than radical choices, these are logical adjustments. The absence of Griedge Mbock, captain and patron of defense, forced the coach to innovate. It is the young Alice Sombath who inherits the heavy task of replacing her in a hinge, alongside Maëlle Lakrar. In goals, no surprises: Pauline Peyraud-Magnin retains her place as an indisputable holder.

The armband returns to Grace Geyoro, an essential executive of this team and experienced leader. La Parisienne will make up the environment with Sakina Karchaoui, placed in a more axial role, and Oriane Jean-François. The latter, which evolves in Chelsea, knows perfectly the English and its dynamic relayer profile is precious for this type of opposition. A choice as strategic as it is symbolic.

Surprises in attack in the Blue

The offensive trio selected mixes speed, technique and power: Delphine Cascarino on the right, Marie-Antoinette Katoto in advance and Sandy Baltimore on the left. A tenure that repels Kadidiatou Diani on the bench, which is undoubtedly the main surprise of this eleven. On the sides of the defense, it is Salma Bacha and Almeida who will occupy the corridors, in a role both defensive and offensive.

Faced with England of Sarina Wiegman, reigning champion, this match promises to be a major test for a rejuvenated but ambitious France. The duel between Russo and Sombath will be scrutinized closely, especially since the young tricolor had already muzzled him during their last confrontation. It remains to be confirmed in the Euro fire.
