UEFA threatens to exclude OL from the Europa League if the DNCG confirms its relegation to Ligue 2.

What future for OL? Olympique Lyonnais announced on Monday the retreat of John Textor. Michele Kang becomes president of the club, while Michael Gerlinger takes the post of managing director. This change comes as UEFA publishes a statement concerning the situation of the Rhone club.

After the sale of Textor's shares in Crystal Palace, the European body decided to postpone its decision on the question of the multi -ownership between the two clubs. The European body is now awaiting the DNCG's final decision on the OL sports situation.

However, UEFA confirmed that in the event of a descent to Ligue 2, OL will not be able to participate in the Europa League next season. This exclusion is part of an agreement signed between the Rhone club and the Club Financial Control Body (CFCB), responsible for monitoring the financial health of clubs.

A problematic clause?

The precise press release: “As part of this agreement, Olympique Lyonnais has agreed to be excluded from the UEFA club competitions 2025/26 if the French Authority (DNCG) confirmed the relegation of the club in Ligue 2. More information on this case of multi-club property and on this settlement agreement will be communicated in due time. »» This clause strongly complicates the European future of the club. UEFA is now awaiting the final decision of the DNCG.

But before thinking of the C3, the Gones play their survival in the elite of French football in front of the financial gendarme. In the event of relegation, OL will be prohibited from Europa League next season. This scenario weighs heavily on the club's sporting and financial future. Michele Kang will have to manage this major crisis and try to rebuild confidence with the instances.
